Capitals commit to 2004 born defenceman Nate Tivey

The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce the commitment of 2004 born defenceman Nate Tivey for the 2022/23 season. Tivey, out of Burlington, Ontario comes to the Capitals from the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Hamilton Kilty B’s, the same program that Cowichan brought in former defenceman Cullen Ferguson from for the 2019-20 season. Tivey will bring both size and skill to the Capitals back end, standing 6’5″ while leading the Kilty B’s defenders in scoring last season, finishing 10th on the team overall with 3 goals and 24 points in 42 games. He was also selected to play in last seasons GOJHL Top Prospects Game.

“Nate is a smooth skating defencemen with great size and range, he brings a presence on the ice.
Nate defends well, has a good stick and anticipates the play. He makes smart decisions with and without the puck, and he will add some offence. Nate was a high selection in the u18 OHL priority selection draft; we are very happy to obtain this highly sought after player” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Brian Passmore.

Prior to his rookie season of junior in 2021/22, Tivey spent a pair of seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs U18 program through a pair of COVID-shortened seasons, but he did grab some attention. He was picked 4th overall by the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League’s U18 Priority Draft.

The Capitals are excited to welcome Nate and his family to the Cowichan Valley and the Capitals Organization!
