The Cowichan Capitals are excited to announce that 20 year old defenceman Colin Campbell has committed to Wilfrid Laurier University for the 2022/23 season! WLU plays in the Canadian University USPORTS league and plays out of Waterloo, Ontario as part of the Ontario University Athletics Conference. Campbell in the 2021/22 season recorded 2 goals and 20 points in 33 games leading the Capitals in defensemen scoring. He hails from Mississauga, Ontario, and previous to coming to Cowichan played one full season of major junior in the Ontario Hockey League with the Guelph Storm in 2019/20, the OHL was the only of Canada’s 3 major junior leagues not to play during the 2020/21 season.
“I would like to thank Brian (Passmore) for giving me the opportunity and everything he has done for me. I would like to thank all of the coaches for their support and mentorship throughout the year. I would like to thank all of my teammates and billets for making this year a great experience and allowing me to get this opportunity to continue playing hockey at Wilfrid Laurier University” said Campbell.
“I would also like to thank the rest of the Capitals staff as well as (Athletic Therapist) Jordan Brucks for everything they did to help me this year, and thank the fans for their incredible support this year, the Cowichan Valley is an awesome community to be a part of and play hockey in” Campbell added.
WLU in 2021/22 had two former BCHLers on their roster, Justyn Gurney (Surrey 2018-19) and Evan Benwell (Merritt/Nanaimo 2019-2020).
Congrats Colin!
